An Updated Reply To The Common Lies About The Tea Party
By admin | September 19, 2010
Since March of this year, when I wrote the first reply to the common lies about the Tea Party the attacks that this movement has been subjected too have become more sophisticated in their wording and in their logic, but really have become no less desperate and often idiotic in their foundation and delivery…
Although I could easily fill many volumes with the ridiculous claims that have been leveled against Tea Party organizers and supporters, here are just a few of the most recent diatribes from the New York Times and Newsweek that quickly find their way into the realm of the moronic…
With these great pieces of literary ridiculousness behind us, lets move into the much more fertile endeavor of discovering the truth about some of the beliefs, motivations, and ideas behind this populist movement that is often so maligned by the media.
Since writing my first response the media seems to have moved away from the ideas that we are both an Astroturf movement and a racist movement, although the racist part still comes up. Of course those ideas have been shown to be false not only by others but by this blog many times including here.
Now, with those attacks falling flat, the often liberal leaning media have moved onto the idea that the movement and the candidates that have beaten their establishment rivals are actually very radical, and that the Republican moderates have been purged from the party.
As indicators of this radicalism, they hold up some of the following ideas that they claim are evident within the Tea Party or are hallmarks of the movement:
Top Ten Accusations Against The Tea Party
To see a response to these, just click on the accusation.
2. That the Tea Party is actually a social conservative movement and not a fiscal conservative movement.
3. That the Tea Party wants to destroy Social Security and Medicare.
4. That the Tea Party wants to destroy the Department of Education.
5. That the Tea Party wants to destroy the IRS.
6. That the Tea Party is funded by, Fox News, some crazy billionaire, insert conservative boogieman here.
7. That the Tea Party wants repeal the 17th amendment.
8. That the Tea Party wants repeal the 14th amendment.
9. That the Tea Party is run by Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, Rush Limbaugh, insert conservative boogieman here.
10. And finally they have gone to the nuanced implication that when the Tea Party talks about taking the country back, they ask how far, making the implication to pre-1859 and slavery.
With these concerns now clearly defined, I’m going to endeavor to answer each of these accusations in a series of responses that will follow over the next week or so…
